COURT CHRONICLES: love disarray

I often wonder where and how love goes wrong. What made two adults who once said till love do us part take actions that ends the relationship while still alive! I have asked myself many times, couldn’t couples let go of their differences and stay together forever but hanging around the court has taught me that there is truly irreconcilable difference or “marriage broken down irretrievably” as the lawyers like to say. Sometimes and other times, minor things are escalated to the point of no return.

Some cases are very simple, two adults grew apart and wants to part amicably, no drama, but some other times, they bring the drama especially when there are kids and money involved. Talking of kids, when they come to court and try to tell the truth and not take sides while not wanting to hurt either parent is the most heartbreaking scene I have ever seen. Other times, the children have been manipulated and are out to draw blood from the parent they are out to get, that scene is forlorn to watch. To make a child accuse his or her own mother or father by one of them is borderline evil in my opinion!

The customary court is a place to go to learn boundaries. One will understand that people are different and what will break Mr. A won’t move Mr. B an inch! Some people knew they were marring the wrong person but got married anyways. Some sincerely thought they were in love but later found out that they were infatuated. Some pursued their partner knowing fully well that they didn’t love them. Women who thought men could be tricked into marriage and men who thought love can be bought. There were immature men whose ages didn’t match their thinking, arrogant women who thought they were being independent, the egoist and the feminist, the narcissist, the wicked, the evil, the heartbroken and the heartbreakers, name it, they were all there!

I saw couples who still loved each other but yet couldn’t be together, I saw women fighting for their unfaithful husbands by refusing to get divorced. I saw women who stood by their abusive men and men who wouldn’t leave their adulterous wives. I saw men who wouldn’t forgive little mistakes and insists on leaving their families. I witnessed lawyers argue with different ammunitions and half-truths on behalf of their clients, I saw couples wanting to tear each other’s throat out and their witnesses give proofs; lies or truth, it doesn’t matter! I have watched judges listen raptly to cases, sometimes they were amused, sometimes they were indifferent or uninterested and other times they were angry as they listened to tales that seemed like fictions but were not. I would always be fascinated as their gravels hit the dock and they gave their judgment either for the plaintiff or the defendant!

Though one might think the drama begins and ends in the courtroom, but it doesn’t! The planning, plotting and drama starts from the carpark, outsides benches and corners. I lurk around the corridors to listen in on conversation and thats where the truths are said. Most people don’t lie to their lawyers, they leave the lawyer to lie to the court or as they call it “defending my client”! I hear how plans are formulated, who and how to place the blames, truths and lies to be manipulated and coaches of clients by their lawyers but what really intrigues me is narcissist behavior of men and women who once said I love you to each other.

I have gone far and near to bring you stories of love gone sore. Intriguing and unbelievable situations that drove people apart. Names will be changed to protect people’s identity, but I promise you, all I will write will be the truth according to somebody! Stick with me here and you might learn a thing or two before you say I DO! Welcome to the land of NEVER SAY NEVER!
